A New Year

It's been over a year since we've last posted, and one of my New Year Resolutions is to update this blog more frequently - both to keep our friends/family informed and also for personal reflection.

At the beginning of each year, Jay and I take down our old calendar and peruse through it. Here were a few highlights from 2011:

March
- We went to Cuba for a week, and had a great time. We stayed in Varadero and went on a day trip to Havana.

- Our niece Amelia was born, and is now a smiling almost-walking 9 month-old. Her brother Cole continues to express his doubts about her, but I think she's growing on him.

 August
- We went on our annual camping trip to Algonquin Park, to Welcome Lake which had beautiful sandy shores. Possibly the best site we've had yet.

- We re-connected with old friends at Matt and Steph's beautiful wedding in Sudbury

- Jay and I had our anniversary dinner at Canoe, overlooking the Toronto lakeshore

- My sister Kelly and I spent some time in San Francisco. We had a great time sightseeing, shopping and eating. It was COLD though. Oh, and we crashed Matt and Steph's honeymoon while we were there.

September
- Camping weekend again in Algonquin Park, this time to Misty Lake

- We attended Kyla and Peter's downtown Toronto wedding. It was fun and oh-so-elegant at the same time.

December
- We had a record 5 Christmas dinners to attend, all of which were filled with delicious food and fun times with family. It was made all the more special this year when we could announce that we're having a baby next year! The baby is due in June, and we couldn't be more excited. 2012 will be sure to bring us lots of changes and a wonderful addition to our family.

Oh good Lord, I'm crying again. Tears of joy, but goodness I'm getting soft in my older age. Anyway, a note on Amelia growing on Cole. A few days ago, I left the kitchen door open while Mark and I were swapping shifts and somewhere in the shuffle Amelia got around through the kitchen and out onto the landing with no adult supervision. Anyway, Cole let out an exasperated cry and pinned her to the bars of the baby gate until help could arrive. So even though he still gets irked with her drooling so much, I think he knows she's around for keeps.

Love that you're blogging again Michelle. And yes indeed, I too got tears in my eyes again reading this in Baby Loftus anticipation.
