Over ten years ago, I went on a school trip to London/Birmingham, and saw Stonehenge. I can't remember being terribly impressed, so when Jay really wanted to see it, I fully supported him but secretly thought he'd be disappointed. I was so surprised - it was so much more impressive than I remembered! We had a really great time getting out of the city, seeing a bit of the English countryside, and having a Stonehenge adventure. Luckily for us, it rained a fair bit but stopped just when we got to Stonehenge.
Instead of joining a tour (which would be too easy, and too touristy) we decided to take a local train to Salisburg and then take a separate bus to Stonehenge. Our plan worked out really well, and we got to experience the British rail system (v. efficient).
Jay LOVED Stonehenge. He loved it so much he took about 50 photos of it from varying angles and distances (don't worry, I'll edit it down). This post is dedicated to my friend Matty. Three years ago, Matty did not believe in the existence of Stonehenge (he thought it was a Windows desktop stock photo) and was incredulous when he saw a photo of our friends (coincidentally also named Michelle and Jay) posing in front of it. So here you go Matty - another photo of Michelle and Jay in front of Stonehenge:
We also visited the Tate Modern, a great museum which houses modern art. It was a breath of fresh air to see some intriguing (and some very weird) art in a very cool space (it used to be a power station, apparently).
Next we had MY favourite meal in London. We had Spanish tapas at a restaurant near the Tate Modern called Mar i Terra. It was soooo good. I can still taste the sangria, chorizo, seafood paella, and meatballs, and best of all - the garlic shrimp. Just thinking of dipping bread into that amazing garlic oil the shrimp came in still makes me swoon... Can you tell that we like food photos?
- Michelle
