Honeymoon in Europe: Day 2 (London)

I should mention that 2 things made a huge impact on our trip:

1) Rick Steves is our new hero. We bought Rick Steves’ London and Rick Steves’ Paris and felt like we had our own travel expert guiding us through our trip. His books are full of practical straight-forward advice, and include some great detailed guides for specific museums and attractions. We did almost no research except reading his books, and we ended up with a fantastic trip. Check them out – we seriously cannot recommend them highly enough!

2) Our new camera! We bought a Panasonic Lumix ZS3 camera, which turned out to be a great travel camera. It was small and compact enough for us to whip out at any moment, had great features (12x zoom, HD video recording, etc), and more importantly takes great photos!

After taking the Heathrow Connect train to get into the city, we checked into our hotel (The Cavendish) which was conveniently located by Picadilly Circus. It was clean and modern, but small!

We discovered Pret a Manger – a great coffee/sandwich shop chain! They’re everywhere in London, and I think we bought something from Pret a Manger every day we were in the city. I wish there was one in Toronto!

Then we did a Hop-on/Hop-off Bus Tour which was a relaxing way to get our bearings and see the city with little effort on our part. It included a cruise down the Thames, too.

That night, exhausted, we stumbled into a local British restaurant to sample the regional cuisine. I was less than impressed, but Jay was happy with his sausages.
When we returned to the hotel, we found a tasty surprise to help us celebrate our honeymoon!
